An old twist to an old favourite
Yorkshire Apple Pudding
4oz flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1 pint milk
1/2 tabs trex ( or other lard/fat)
Apples
Sift the flour and salt into a basin, make a well in the centre and add the egg.
Stir in the flour adding a little milk.
Beat for 5 mins, then gradually stir in the remainder of the milk.
Stand for one hour.
Put the trex in a tin and heat until it is very hot.
meanwhile, peel and slice the apples ( how many is up to you )
Quickly pour in the mixture and drop in the apples to your heated tin, being very careful as you do this.
bake in the hot oven for 20 to 30 mins.
Note; the tin and fat must be very hot before putting in the batter mixture or the pudding will not rise!!
Enjoy
This is a wartime recipe taken from "Haworth 1940's wartime cookbook " 10/s.
